Thursday's Three on Poetry

Today, Thursday's Three spotlights three forthcoming collections of poetry.

Half-Light | Collected Poems 1965-2016 (Farrar Straus & Giroux, August 15, 2017) ~ This is a long-awaited volume of Frank Bidart's half-century of work; it includes a new collection Thirst. Bidart has received numerous awards, including the 2013 National Book Critics Circle Award (for Metaphysical Dog) and the 2007 Bollingen Prize for American Poetry.

The Lazarus Poems (Wesleyan Poetry Series, October 3, 2017) ~ Award-winning Barbadian poet, performer, and cultural theorist Kamau Brathwaite addresses racial politics and ageism in the context of appropriation, theft, isolation, and exploitation, what Brathwaite terms "cultural lynching".

Gondwana and Other Poems (New Directions, June 27, 2017) ~ This new release by Franco-American poet, essayist, translator, and anthropologist Nathaniel Tarn "celebrates bird flight, waves, [and] the blue ice of Antarctica" while also warning of environmental catastrophe. Tarn's earlier collections include The Beautiful Contradictions, Ins & Outs of the Forest Rivers, and Lyrics for the Bride of God, a book-length poem.
