Joan Halifax, Founder and Director, Upaya Zen Center, Santa Fe, New Mexico. Halifax also is an activist, anthropologist, author (Being With Dying), caregiver, ecologist, and teacher, known for her work with the terminally ill. She also was the founder and leader for 10 years of the Ojai Foundation in California and is director of the Upaya Institute's Project on Being With Dying. She is the only woman and Buddhist on the Advisory Council of the Tony Blair Foundation, which aims to promote inter-faith understanding and dialogue.
